Rock Star Sushi is a relatively new urban Sushi restaurant to south London. Already voted one of the best sushi restaurants in London on Trip Advisor, it is fast growing in popularity. The restaurant is located in the quirky Market of Merton Abbey Mills and although a small venue, the atmosphere has a lot to add. A large projector plays popular rock music against the back wall of the venue whilst you dine, creating a comfortably and lively environment. The friendly staff are happy to assist you with the menu and the Chef in particular is enthusiastically chatty and displays a great deal of experience, passion and knowledge for his food.
The menu is varied and includes a delicious range of Japanese dishes. I myself am not a vegetarian and have always favoured an Alaska maki over most sushi, but Rock Star Sushi’s Green Veg uramaki exceeded expectations.
With some fish, availability will depend on their supplier as Rock Star only purchase fresh produce. This is largely due to the size of the venue; unlike larger Sushi restaurants which house industrial sized freezers. Due to this, the chef will sometimes experiment with a variety of fish dishes not listed on the menu; we were fortunate enough to try and very much enjoy the black cod. Bearing this in mind, its worth asking what is available.
The only limitations to this sushi bar, is the small drinks menu and the size of the venue; seating 12-14. If you can look past this, then we recommend taking a newby sushi fan along and teach them the ways of good delicious sushi.
Enjoy!
